We have the honour to offer you a remarkable tour to: Har Karkom – the Biblical Mount Sinai.
General Information about Har Karkom tours
Har Karkom, Karkom mountain, in the southwest Negev desert in Israel, is possibly the biblical Mt. Sinai. Excavations on the mountain, made by Professor Emmanuel Anati, discovered that it was a major Palaeolithic cult centre, and many of the findings are evidence that Har Karkom was sacred to ancient cultures. Its location is on the suggested route of the children of Israel in the exodus from Egypt

General information:
Its location makes it accessible only by jeeps and since it’s not allowed to use the border road for security reasons, the only way now is to drive down south and then west, about three – three and a half hours drive from Mitzpe Ramon. Since our way to the mountain is through a military firing range, there is a need for permission from the army to enter the area and it is possible to visit there only on Fridays, Saturdays, or holidays.
These tours are suitable for hikers and the tour is intensive.
The tours are defined as private tours, for you only. We will be happy to arrange a departure time convenient to you and your preferred venue.
Tour price is determined by the number of vehicles you book and according to the number of participants in the tour.
Tour prices: from 2800 NIS per vehicle and a tour guide.
Tour price include: vehicle, guide/driver, drinking water, coffee, and tea.
There is an option for a picnic during the day, lunch will be served in the desert.
Price of the meal per participant: 140 NIS
Since the way to the mountain and back is very long, you might consider a tour of two days or more with accommodation under the open sky, we will take care naturally for logistics, setting up the camp, cooking the food and all the other tasks.

One-day tour itinerary
Generally, the meeting is in Mitzpe Ramon since it is the nearest point to the mountain and the journey takes approximately three hours in each direction
.
We take road 40 south and drive through the Ramon crater, through the desert of Paran, and then to Mt. Karkom. When we get to the mountain we can start after lunch our hike to the mountain.
Climbing up to the mountain followed by many rock engraving art and archaeological sites on top of the mountain.
The view from the top of the mountain towards the Sinai and Paran deserts connects us to the biblical story and the unique sites of the desert culture together with an abundance of findings with ritualistic and sacred characteristics that are part of our guidance. The hiking to the mountain is for about 3-4 hours and then we will return to Mitzpe Ramon.
Please consider a very long and intensive day altogether 12 hours.
Two-day tour itinerary
Day one: We take road 40 south and drive through the Ramon crater, on road 40, enter wadi Zihor and the 4×4 trails and drive west towards Mt. Karkom. On our way to the mountain, we can visit sites in the Ramon crater and visit also the white canyon.
During the day we will stop for a picnic lunch. In the evening we will arrive at the camp under Har Karkom and have supper there.
There are not any facilities at the camp. We take care of meals and the food, water for drinking, campfire, sleeping is in tents.
There are no toilet rooms or showers.
Day two: On the morning of the second day, after breakfast, we will climb to the mountain for a long hike and guidance. Climbing up to the mountain is followed by many rock engraving and archaeological sites on top of the mountain.
The view from the top of the mountain towards the Sinai and Paran deserts connects us to the biblical story and the unique sites of the desert culture together with an abundance of findings with ritualistic and sacred characteristics that are part of our guidance.
By the afternoon, after lunch, we will make our way back to Mitzpe Ramon, From Wadi Paran.
